SUPREME HONOURED ROYAL LADY SHAREN McLEAN

ROYAL PURPLE OF CANADA

2011 – 2012

Sharen was born just before her twin sister Karen at the Claresholm, AB General Hospital. Sharen is the second oldest of twelve children and spent all of her youth on the farm just west of Stavely AB. Sharen was educated in Stavely and Medicine Hat. Sharen nursed in Calgary at the Calgary General and Holy Cross Hospitals and the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. Her specialties were Pediatrics, Labor and Delivery and Intensive Care Nurseries. She also served as a Team Leader at a Public Service Centre with Calgary Laboratory Services for 25 years. She retired in 2008.

Sharen married Bill McLean in Stavely, AB in April 1970. They have two children Stephen (1972) and Keith (1974). Both boys are happily married to Tarah and Josine respectfully. Sharen and Bill have been blessed with two healthy grandsons Logan and Brody and two grand puppies Boomer and Magua. The family all presently resides in Calgary, AB.
 

The Royal Purple and Elks have always been very important to her as a child growing up.
 

She soon learned what volunteering was all about. Sharen’s Father, George Lengyel at the time of his death in 2003 had been a Stavely #112 AB Elk for 57 years and had been awarded a Life Membership. Her Mother, Marjorie Lengyel, was a Charter Member, in 1947, of the Stavely #99 Royal Purple died in 2001 and was a member for 54 years. At one time 10 of Sharen’s siblings were either Brother Elks or Ladies of the Royal Purple. Sharen joined the Stavely Royal Purple in 1966. Sharen served on the Drill Team (1970 – 1983) and is presently still on the team. She is Past Honoured Royal Lady for Stavely AB #99 (1988 – 1989), Past District Deputy for District # 5 AB ( 1993 – 1994), Supreme Historian ( 1996 – 1997), Past AB Provincial President (2004 – 2005), and was elected as Supreme Lecturing Lady ( 2008 – 2009) in Nisku, AB. Sharen has served on many committees at the Lodge, Provincial and National Levels. She has been National Committee Liaison to Charities, Finance, Provincial Presidents’ District Deputies, Sports, National Lodge Development, and then this past year served as a Liaison to all National Committees.

Sharen would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Stavely Lodges and all her many friends in the Order Provincially and Nationally for their guidance and support throughout the years. A very special thank you to all her family for their unselfish caring and continuous love and faith throughout her Royal Purple endeavours.
